Kevin Main

Kevin Main, BSEE

I moved to Texas from Oklahoma in 1997 and have lived in Plano since that time. I grew up taking trips with my family into the woods and mountains of Colorado nearly every Summer, and I spent hundreds of nights with my father, outside, just watching the stars. He inspired me with both an appreciation for the beauty and power of nature, and a desire to learn everything I could about this magnificent universe.

I never felt a particular affinity with organized religion or the religious traditions of my upbringing, and so I pursued a solitary quest to learn, to explore, and to discover my spiritual path for myself. I did not, in any way, anticipate that my journey would lead me to shamanism. However, a series of profoundly transformative experiences reconnected me deeply with the mystery and power of nature that I knew clearly as a child, and restored to me a companionship with a helping spirit that I had known when I was very young. Rediscovering my relationship with that spirit led me to the work of Michael Harner and the Foundation for Shamanic Studies.

I took the Foundation's Basic Workshop: The Way of the Shaman® with Charles Conatser. Over time, as I began to understand clearly that shamanic practice was to be an integral center of my life, I pursued advanced training with the FSS, including the Two-Week Shamanic Healing Intensive and the Three-Year Program of Advanced Initiations in Shamanism and Shamanic Healing.

I have had an active shamanic healing practice since 2014, and I facilitate monthly drumming circles in north Texas. I work professionally as an electrical and computer engineer, and I love reading and writing; drawing, painting, sewing, and crafting all sorts of things that bring joy to others; and playing several musical instruments. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, and I have studied physics, mathematics, philosophy, and comparative religion.

I have many years of experience teaching and facilitating spiritual and contemplative practices. I believe that core shamanism can evoke great change in the world by bringing healing, wholeness, and power to those with open hearts and a willingness to sincerely explore these practices. These methods, and the possibilities offered by direct, personal partnerships with compassionate, powerful spirits, are intrinsic to the human experience and accessible to anyone.
